Chairman’s Comment on Prime Minister Suga’s First Cabinet
Akio Toyoda, Chairman
Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association, Inc.
The Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA) would like first to express its appreciation to former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe for his support, throughout the past eight years of his stable political administration, of efforts to enhance the competitiveness of the Japanese automobile industry, aided by steady exchange rates and trade policies underpinned by sound relationships with global leaders.
With its wholehearted determination to safeguard domestic manufacturing and employment, Japan’s automobile industry will, on a unified basis, continue to work vigorously to become a worldwide leading mobility industry.
We encourage Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga to maintain policies that promote economic revitalization and we solicit his support in bolstering the competitiveness of automobile manufacturing, with its broad base of supporting industries, as a strategic industry, via initiatives that include reduction of the onerous tax burden imposed on vehicle owners in Japan, automobile tax reform, and deregulation with a view to the new mobility of the future.
