The 42nd Tokyo Motor Show 2011 Closes on a Successful Note
-The resilience of Japanese manufacturing is proclaimed-
The 42nd Tokyo Motor Show 2011 (Organizer: Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association, Inc.; Chairman: Toshiyuki Shiga), which ran for ten days from December 2 (Friday) to December 11 (Sunday) at Tokyo Big Sight in Ariake, Koto-ku in Tokyo, closed today at 5 PM on a successful note. The show was three days shorter than the previous show, yet the total number of visitors amounted to 842,600, a significant increase of 37% compared to the previous 41st show of 2009. This also came close to the 852,900 visitors for the same number of days (ten days) in the 40th Show in 2007 which was held for 17 days.
We are confident that this show displayed to both Japan and abroad the resilience of Japanese manufacturing after overcoming many challenges.
Returning to Tokyo for the first time in 24 years, the Tokyo Motor Show was fitting as an international show with the participation of all 14 JAMA member manufacturers and 15 brands of Japan, as well as 21 companies and 25 brands (passenger cars, commercial vehicles, motorcycles, Carrozzeria) from abroad. Many cutting edge products and technology were introduced, including 53 world premiere models.
The new initiative of “SMART MOBILITY CITY 2011,” an organizer-themed project, demonstrated the latest technology that links to cars, cities, and lifestyles. Several visitor-participation, hands-on events were held, such as ”Passenger Car Test Ride Program by Professionals' Driving,“ in which more than 5,500 parties took part.
Further, improved convenience for visitors with the returning of the show venue to Tokyo, open hours extended on weekdays to 8 PM, new introduction of discount evening tickets after 6 PM weekdays, as well as various measures to promote the show by the Rinkai Fukutoshin area where the show venue is located adding to the excitement, all came together to make the show a success.
The next Tokyo Motor Show is scheduled for autumn 2013. The outline including show dates, etc will be announced next spring.
